The Ras Mkumbuu ruins are located in Wesha
about 17 kilometers from Chake Chake town.
The visit includes among others, visit of
the dead mosque, the Mwanamwari grave,
and other ruins. The dead mosque is said to have sank
into water. The Ras Mkumbuu visit may be combined
with Mkamandume ruins located at about seven and
half miles from the small town of Chake Chake. The
MKAMA NDUME ruled the whole Island of Pemba
with his inhuman cruelty. Mkama Ndume is said to be
a Persian Prince then the King of Pemba during the
15th century, until the arrival of the Portuguese who
assassinated him. His real name was Mohammed Bin
Abdulrahman.
