Sustainable Tourism
Safina Tours believes in Sustainable Tourism. We ensure that our activities fully consider the current and future of tourism. Our focus spans all three aspects of tourism sustainability: economic viability, social acceptability, and environmental friendliness.
Economically
Economically, we strive to ensure our company fairly generates profit for its survival. We have been in existence since 2006 and proved a fantastic growth in our business. As a company, we try to be a good taxpayer; the income of our company benefits all Zanzibaris through tax collection by the government and through director contributions to community projects.
Socially
Socially, we prioritise local people, specifically the surrounding community, whenever we have employment opportunities. More than 90% of our employees are local Zanzibaris and Tanzanians holding all senior management posts. Indeed, Safina Tours fully involves local people in tourism activities to distribute the tourism benefits to all Zanzibaris and Tanzanians. In doing so, it has become our policy to subcontract local people to execute some of our activities rather than doing them ourselves. For instance, we use local people's boat in all water excursions, such as Safaris Blue, Mnemba snorkeling, Sunset cruise, and Fishing in view of building their capacity and ensuring a direct benefit from tourism to local people.
Environmentally
Environmentally, we regularly train our team to do away with all activities threatening the ecological and cultural heritage. Thus, our policy has become to replace our vehicles after a short period to avoid the pollution arising from the old vehicles. Also, we inform our customers to avoid the unnecessary collection of coral reefs during the diving and snorkeling to do their activities carefully. Most importantly, we have stopped being part of some activities, such as dolphin tours, that endanger the future existence of dolphins.

As part of our commitment to responsible and meaningful tourism, we dedicate a portion of our income to supporting local education and community initiatives. Through partnerships with primary schools, we contribute to essential needs and help create better opportunities for young learners.
We also invest in the next generation of Zanzibari talent, providing free foreign-language training to young people and helping them develop practical skills for careers in hospitality and tourism. Several of those we have trained have since found employment, both with Safina Tours & Safaris and across the wider tourism industry.
Equally important to us is creating opportunities within our own community. We proudly employ Zanzibaris across our operations and support their continued professional development, helping local talent build rewarding and sustainable careers in tourism.
